Vorosmarty Square is a broad open plaza at the northern end of Vaci Street in central Budapest, named for the poet Mihaly Vorosmarty whose marble monument stands at its centre. Surrounded by grand buildings, it is home to the historic Gerbeaud coffeehouse, a landmark of Hungarian cafe tradition since the nineteenth century. The square hosts one of the city's most popular Christmas markets and serves as a terminus of the historic underground railway. Street performers, book stalls, and cafe terraces animate the space throughout the year.
