The Immaculata plague column stands on the upper section of Kosice's main street, a Baroque monument raised in the early eighteenth century in gratitude for the ending of an epidemic. Crowned by a statue of the Virgin Mary and encircled by saints, it rises above a fenced platform that once served as a place of prayer. Below it lie the excavated foundations of a medieval execution site and chapel, now visible through a viewing pavilion. The monument marks a ceremonial anchor point along the historic plaza.
