The Rock Church, formally Temppeliaukio Church, is a Lutheran church in Helsinki carved directly into a granite outcrop and roofed with a broad copper dome ringed by skylights. Completed in the late 1960s, its rough rock walls and natural light give the circular interior remarkable acoustics that make it a popular concert venue. Below ground level, the excavated stone forms the sanctuary while daylight filters through the dome above. The unusual fusion of raw bedrock and modern design has made it one of the most visited buildings in the city.
