This shaded park at the foot of Geneva's old town was laid out on former fortifications and holds the city's botanical garden of the early nineteenth century. Its most famous feature is the Reformation Wall, a long stone monument set with statues of Calvin, Farel and other reformers whose work made Geneva a centre of Protestant thought. Gravel paths run between mature trees, a bandstand and giant outdoor chess boards where players gather in fine weather. The buildings of the university line the upper edge of the grounds.
