This monumental wooden sculpture stands on the Place des Nations opposite the United Nations offices in Geneva. Rising twelve metres, it takes the form of a giant chair with one leg shattered, a memorial to the victims of landmines and cluster bombs erected to support a treaty banning them. Carved from beams by the artist Daniel Berset, it has become one of the most photographed works in the city. Its presence at the heart of Geneva's diplomatic quarter turns an everyday object into a stark and lasting piece of political protest.
