Rising to over eight hundred metres on the western edge of Zurich, the Uetliberg is the city's local mountain and a popular escape from the streets below. A suburban railway climbs most of the way, from where a short walk leads to a summit crowned by an observation tower and a restaurant. The view spans the whole city, the lake stretching south and a long arc of the Alps on clear days. A ridge trail known as the planet path, marked with scale models of the solar system, runs south along the crest toward Felsenegg.
