Standing on a busy shopping street in central Porto, this small chapel is instantly recognisable for the tens of thousands of blue-and-white tiles that cover its exterior walls. Though the chapel itself dates from the eighteenth century, the tile panels were added only in the early twentieth century in a deliberately older style, depicting scenes from the lives of Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Catherine. The vivid facade glows against the surrounding buildings, one of the most photographed tiled surfaces in the city.
