This pair of adjoining baroque and rococo churches in central Porto is best known for the vast blue-and-white tile panel that sheathes an entire side wall, depicting the founding of the Carmelite order and added in the early twentieth century. Between the two churches stands what is often called one of the narrowest houses in the city, a slender dwelling barely a metre wide, built to keep the two religious communities apart. The gilded interiors and striking tiled facade make the ensemble a favourite of photographers.
