This red-brick triumphal arch was built as the grand entrance to the 1888 Universal Exposition held in the adjoining park. Unlike military arches elsewhere, it was conceived as a welcoming gateway celebrating progress and the arts, decorated with reliefs and ceramic details in a Neo-Mudéjar style. A broad tree-lined promenade stretches from the arch toward the exhibition grounds. Today the wide pedestrian avenue is a popular spot for street performers, skateboarders, and visitors strolling toward the nearby Ciutadella Park.
