This Jesuit church in the historic centre of Naples is instantly recognised by its unusual facade of dark stone blocks cut into faceted diamond points, a survival from the noble palace that once stood on the site. Behind this austere front lies an interior of overwhelming baroque richness, its walls and vaults covered with coloured marble, frescoes and gilded ornament. The church is also a place of popular devotion linked to a modern saint whose tomb draws pilgrims, with votive plaques crowding one chapel.
