San Domenico Maggiore

This Gothic church in the historic centre of Naples was long favoured by the city's nobility and by the Dominican order, whose adjoining friary numbered the philosopher Thomas Aquinas among its members. Its lofty interior holds noble tombs, frescoed chapels and paintings by leading Neapolitan masters. A sacristy above preserves a row of coffins holding princes of the ruling dynasty. Facing a lively square marked by a spire, the church anchors one of the busiest corners of the old town.
