This small baroque chapel in the historic centre of Naples was transformed in the 18th century into an elaborate private mausoleum by the prince of Sansevero, a nobleman fascinated by alchemy and the arts. Its centrepiece is the Veiled Christ, a marble figure whose translucent-seeming shroud has astonished visitors for generations. Around it stand allegorical statues of remarkable virtuosity, including figures wrapped in carved veils and nets. In a crypt below are two controversial anatomical models.
