This early Renaissance palace, one of the first of its kind in Rome, was built at the end of the fifteenth century and later served as the papal chancellery, from which it takes its name. Its long, restrained facade of travertine, partly quarried from ancient monuments, encloses an elegant arcaded courtyard attributed to Bramante's circle. Extraterritorial property of the Vatican, it houses church offices and a grand frescoed hall painted by Vasari and his workshop.
