Schlossplatz is the largest square in central Stuttgart and the representative heart of the city. Laid out in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in front of the royal residence, it is centred on a tall Jubilee Column crowned by a figure of Concordia, flanked by two ornate fountains representing the region's rivers. The Baroque New Palace forms its eastern edge, while colonnades and garden beds frame the open space. Once a parade ground for the kings of Württemberg, the square today hosts festivals, concerts, and markets.
