The DDR Museum on the banks of the Spree presents daily life in the former East Germany through a hands-on, interactive approach. Opened in 2006, it invites visitors to open drawers, sit in a reconstructed prefabricated apartment, and climb into a genuine Trabant car to experience a simulated drive. Displays cover the planned economy, surveillance by the Stasi, consumer products, holidays on the Baltic coast, and the everyday textures of a vanished state. Its immersive style has made it one of the most visited museums in the German capital.
