In the oldest house on the Montmartre hill, this museum occupies a 17th-century manor where painters including Renoir, Utrillo and Suzanne Valadon once lived and worked. Its rooms and reconstructed studios chronicle the bohemian life of the quarter, its cabarets, dance halls and the birth of modern art on the butte. Terraced gardens named after Renoir overlook the surviving vineyard of Montmartre and offer sweeping views across the city. Original posters, paintings and mementoes evoke the district's celebrated artistic golden age.
