Clinging to the slope of Passy, this modest house is the only Parisian residence of the novelist Honoré de Balzac to survive. He lived here in the 1840s, correcting proofs of the Human Comedy and, according to legend, using the back stairs to evade creditors. The rooms display manuscripts, portraits, and his celebrated coffee pot, along with editions and personal objects. A terraced garden offers views toward the Eiffel Tower, and the permanent collection can be visited free of charge in a peaceful residential setting.
