Set within Fitzgerald Park on the western side of the city, this museum traces the history of Cork from prehistoric and early Christian times through the medieval period to the struggle for independence. Housed in a Georgian building extended with modern galleries, it displays civic silver, archaeology, and material relating to figures such as the executed Lord Mayor Terence MacSwiney. The surrounding park adds riverside walks, a fountain and a sculpture-lined avenue for visiting families.
