This riverside park on the western edge of Cork was created for an international exhibition held in the city in 1902 and 1903. Laid out with lawns, flowerbeds, a lily pond and a fountain, it takes its name from a former lord mayor who helped organise the event. A graceful pedestrian suspension bridge, known locally as the Shakey Bridge for its gentle movement, connects the park across the River Lee. The grounds also contain the city museum and a scattering of sculptures among mature trees.
