This national museum in Cathays Park combines art, natural history and geology under one grand roof. Opened in stages from the 1920s, its galleries trace the story of Wales from prehistoric times, alongside an internationally regarded collection of Impressionist paintings gathered by the Davies sisters. Displays include a life-size model of a humpback whale, dinosaur remains and interactive natural science exhibits. The neoclassical building and its landscaped setting form part of the elegant civic quarter, and admission is free.
