This grand Edwardian building anchors the civic centre of Cathays Park and is one of the finest examples of its era in Britain. Completed in 1906 in white Portland stone, it is topped by a clock tower and a dome crowned with a Welsh dragon. Inside, the Marble Hall contains statues of Welsh national heroes, while richly decorated council chambers and an assembly hall host civic events. Its opening coincided with Cardiff's growing status, which led to city status being granted in 1905.
