Laid out in the 1850s beside the River Kelvin, this Victorian park forms the green heart of Glasgow's West End. It was designed by Joseph Paxton and hosted major international exhibitions in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Winding paths, tree-lined avenues, a bandstand and memorial statues fill the sloping grounds, which rise toward the University of Glasgow's tower. The park frames views of the neighbouring Kelvingrove Art Gallery and provides a busy setting for festivals, sport and everyday city life.
