Admiralty Arch is a monumental curved building linking Trafalgar Square with the Mall, built in the early twentieth century as a memorial to Queen Victoria and as offices for the Admiralty. Its three great arches frame the ceremonial route towards Buckingham Palace, the central gate traditionally reserved for royal processions. A curious small carved nose protrudes from the inner wall of one archway, a piece of anonymous public art that has become a minor cult attraction. The building is being converted into a hotel.
