Ice carved Durmitor, and rivers finished the job: the Tara canyon slicing through this Montenegrin park is Europe's deepest gorge, threading between glacial lakes, dense pine forest and a wealth of endemic plants. Hikers cross high plateaus while rafters run the Tara's rapids far below. One of the earlier natural listings, Durmitor became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980.
