Tadiandamol

Tadiandamol is the highest peak in Kodagu, the Coorg district of Karnataka, standing about 1,748 metres in the Western Ghats. Its grassy dome and pockets of shola forest overlook a rolling country of coffee estates, and on clear mornings the view reaches across ridge after ridge toward the Arabian Sea plains.

Its appeal is a gentle but rewarding hill climb through classic Ghats scenery: emerald grassland, dense evergreen thickets in the folds, and the old Nalknad Palace of the Kodava rajas near the base. It captures the cool, misty character of Coorg without demanding serious mountaineering.

On the trail the trek is a half-day to full-day outing, usually from Nalknad or Kakkabe, climbing steadily through forest patches onto open grassland to the summit. Graded easy to moderate, it suits families and first-time hikers, though the grass slopes are slick after rain and there is little shade once above the treeline.

Practical notes: the peak lies in reserved forest, so an entry permit is taken at the base and camping on the summit is generally not allowed; a local guide is easy to arrange in Kakkabe. October to March is the prime season, cool and clear after the monsoon greens the hills; the heaviest rains of June to September make the trail muddy and leech-ridden.
