Twin village on the western head of Schouwen-Duiveland, set against the largest dune area in Zeeland. Slot Haamstede, a medieval castle with a ring village grown around it, anchors the older core, while trails lead through the Zeepeduinen and Westerschouwen forest to the coast. The area is a favorite of birdwatchers and walkers seeking rougher, wilder dunes than Walcheren offers.
