Port city on the Westerschelde where seagoing ships pass close enough to the boulevard to read their names. The waterfront promenade links a city beach, the statue of admiral Michiel de Ruyter, and remnants of centuries of maritime and naval history. Its shipyard past and wartime scars give the town a grittier, more lived-in feel than the resort villages further up the coast.
