Tynwald Hill at St John's is the ceremonial heart of the world's oldest continuous parliament, where new Manx laws have been proclaimed in the open air for over a thousand years. The stepped, tiered mound is believed to incorporate soil from all the island's parishes, and each 5 July the Tynwald Day ceremony draws crowds for the annual sitting. The adjacent Royal Chapel and processional way complete the site.
