A round, low-lying island south of Guadeloupe proper, nicknamed the island of a hundred windmills for its sugar-cane heritage. Working rum distilleries, ox-cart traditions, and long uncrowded beaches like Anse Canot preserve a rural Creole pace that has faded elsewhere.
