Los Glaciares National Park

Ice still shapes Patagonia on a grand scale in Los Glaciares, where outlet glaciers of the immense Southern Patagonian Ice Field grind down from granite peaks to calve into milky lakes. Lake Argentino, 160 kilometres long, receives several of them — most famously the Perito Moreno Glacier, whose advancing front periodically dams a channel of the lake and then bursts. Jagged summits such as Fitz Roy crown the park's northern skyline. UNESCO inscribed Los Glaciares as a World Heritage Site in 1981.
