The Perito Moreno Glacier advances from the Southern Patagonian Ice Field to the surface of Lago Argentino within Los Glaciares National Park, forming one of the few glaciers on Earth that is currently advancing rather than retreating. Its terminal ice face stands 60–74 metres above the lake surface and extends five kilometres across, periodically damming the lake and producing spectacular ruptures as accumulated water pressure breaks through the ice wall. An elevated walkway system allows viewing of the glacier face from multiple angles.
