Prambanan is Indonesia's largest temple compound dedicated to Shiva, raised in the 10th century in the Yogyakarta region. At the heart of its concentric courts stand three towering shrines to Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma, carved with reliefs narrating the Ramayana and faced by three temples for the animal mounts that serve the gods. The compounds were inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage in 1991.
