Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world, positioned on the Beagle Channel at the foot of the Martial Mountains within Argentine Tierra del Fuego. The city is the primary embarkation point for expedition cruises to Antarctica, and the Beagle Channel itself — named for Darwin's voyage vessel — is home to colonies of Magellanic and gentoo penguins at Isla Martillo. Tierra del Fuego National Park, accessible by the End of the World Train, extends to the Chilean border through lenga beech forest and peat bogs.
