An extensive Classic Maya city in a tropical forest north of Tulum, Cobá contains one of the tallest pyramid structures on the Yucatán Peninsula — the Nohoch Mul, at approximately 42 meters. The site spreads across several interconnected lakes linked by ancient sacbe causeways. The surrounding jungle canopy teems with bird life, and coatis and spider monkeys are frequently observed along the shaded pathways between ruins.
