Akumal

A sheltered bay along the Riviera Maya between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, Akumal is named from the Mayan for 'place of the turtles' and reliably delivers on that promise. Green sea turtles graze on seagrass beds just offshore in water shallow enough for snorkelers. The protected bay and soft sand make it particularly suitable for families with children, though visitor numbers have grown substantially in recent years.
