Mont-Royal is the triple-summit hill rising from the centre of Montreal Island, with its forested flanks protected as a 200-hectare urban park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and opened in 1876. The Kondiaronk Belvedere on the southern slope provides the principal panoramic view over downtown Montreal to the St. Lawrence River and the Monteregian Hills beyond. The park's wooded trails are used for cross-country skiing in winter and host the city's informal Tam-Tams drum circle on summer Sundays.
