The Cabot Trail is a 298-kilometre scenic highway looping around the northern highlands of Cape Breton Island, alternating between coastal cliffs above the Gulf of St. Lawrence, forested river valleys, and Acadian fishing villages. Several lookoffs along the western coast offer some of the most celebrated ocean panoramas in Atlantic Canada, particularly at dusk when the sun sets over the water. The route passes through Cape Breton Highlands National Park for a significant portion of its circuit.
