The Chicago Riverwalk runs along the south bank of the Chicago River through the downtown core for approximately 2.5 kilometers, lined with bridges, restaurants, boat launches, and public art installations. Viewed from the bridges or river level, the riverwalk frames a dense corridor of early twentieth-century and contemporary skyscrapers that represent the full arc of Chicago's architectural history. River architecture tours depart from Wacker Drive and are widely considered the best introduction to Chicago's building heritage.
