Luray Caverns in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia is the largest cavern system in the eastern United States, with passages extending more than 64 acres beneath the surface. The caverns are known for their stalactite and stalagmite formations, including perfectly still underground pools that reflect the cavern ceiling with mirror precision. The Stalacpipe Organ, installed in 1954, uses rubber-tipped mallets to strike stalactites of varying sizes and thicknesses to produce musical tones, making it one of the largest musical instruments in the world by area.
