This row of thirteen Georgian-style townhouses along East Bay Street in Charleston is among the most photographed streetscapes in the American South. Built between the 1740s and 1790s as merchant warehouses and residences, the buildings were painted in coordinated pastel hues during a mid-twentieth-century restoration effort. Morning light from the east catches the facades most directly, making the first hours after sunrise ideal for photography.
