One monument dominates the main square of Olomouc: a 35-metre Baroque column to the Holy Trinity, raised in the early 18th century and encrusted with religious sculpture by the Moravian master Ondřej Zahner. Votive columns rose across central Europe in this era, but none matched the scale and richness of this one, executed in the exuberant local manner known as Olomouc Baroque. UNESCO inscribed the column on the World Heritage List in 2000.
