A sea cave near Labuan Bajo in western Flores, Batu Cermin — meaning Mirror Stone — is named for the optical effect produced when sunlight enters through fissures in the cave ceiling and reflects off crystalline cave walls, scattering diffuse light throughout the interior at certain times of day. Fossil marine creatures embedded in the limestone walls indicate the cave was once submerged, and guided walks through the chambers cover both geological and biological features. The cave lies within easy distance of Labuan Bajo town.
