A large crater lake occupying the floor of the Batur caldera in northeastern Bali, Lake Batur stretches approximately 7.5 kilometers in length and sits at around 1,000 meters elevation. Villages on its shores, including Trunyan — home to a distinctive Bali Aga community with unusual funerary practices — lie against the volcanic backdrop of Mount Batur. The lake is a significant source of irrigation water for the surrounding agricultural districts and supports freshwater fish farming.
