Ko Wua Talap is the largest island in Ang Thong National Marine Park, an archipelago of 42 islands in the Gulf of Thailand about 28 kilometres northwest of Ko Samui. The island serves as the park's administrative headquarters and overnight camping base, and a viewpoint trail from the island summit delivers a panorama across the entire archipelago that includes the circular saltwater lake on the adjacent Ko Mae Ko, a formation that inspired the setting of a well-known Thai novel. The park is a designated national marine park with limited development.
