Ko Samui is the second-largest island in Thailand, situated in the Gulf of Thailand off the Surat Thani coast. Chaweng Beach on the eastern shore is the island's busiest strip, while Lamai Beach to the south attracts a slightly quieter crowd. The interior is dominated by coconut palms and jungle, with several notable temples including Wat Phra Yai, whose 12-metre-tall seated Buddha is visible from the sea. The island has direct flights from Bangkok and several international hubs.
