The oldest and least-developed settlement in Macau, Coloane Village on the southern island of Coloane preserves a small fishing harbor flanked by the Chapel of St. Francis Xavier and pastel-fronted shophouses around a central square. The village has maintained its quiet character despite Macau's rapid urban development and is connected by pedestrian streets to the forested hills of Coloane Country Park. Lord Stow's Bakery, originator of the Portuguese-style Macanese egg tart, is located on the village square.
