Dharamsala is a hill town in the Kangra Valley at about 1,457 metres, internationally known as the seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile and the residence of the Dalai Lama. The upper section, McLeod Ganj, functions as a centre for Tibetan culture, with Buddhist temples, thangka painting studios, and institutes for Tibetan medicine and performing arts. The Tsuglagkhang Complex, comprising the Dalai Lama's residence temple, the Tibet Museum, and the Kalachakra Temple, is the spiritual focus of the community.
