Dalhousie is a colonial hill station in Chamba district spread across five hills at elevations between 1,525 and 2,036 metres, offering views of the Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges. The town retains a collection of Victorian and Scottish baronial buildings from its founding in 1854 as a British sanatorium, including several churches and the old bazaar. The nearby Khajjiar plateau, a flat grassy meadow ringed by cedar forest with a central lake, is sometimes called the Switzerland of India.
