Nubra Valley is a high-altitude river valley north of Leh, formed at the confluence of the Shyok and Nubra rivers, and crossed via the Khardung La pass — one of the highest motorable roads in the world. The valley floor is dotted with Bactrian camel dunes at Hunder, ancient gompas at Diskit, and scattered villages of poplars and apricot orchards against the stark Karakoram foothills. The contrast between sand dunes and snowy peaks in a single frame is a signature photographic subject.
