Gombe Stream is Tanzania's smallest national park, a narrow strip of forest on Lake Tanganyika's shore that gained global recognition as the site of Jane Goodall's chimpanzee research, which began in 1960 and continues to the present day. Visitors hike with guides to observe the habituated Kasekela chimpanzee community in their forest territory, following trails through riverine forest above the lake. The site is accessible only by lake taxi from Kigoma.
